PSEG Long Island seeks a Director to lead its Communications team in Uniondale, Long Island. The job will report directly to the President and COO of PSEG Long Island and on a dotted line to PSEG’s Vice President of Corporate Communications in Newark, N.J.

Job Responsibilities:

Lead internal and external communications for the energy company serving 1.1 million customers on Long Island and the Rockaways, supporting PSEG Long Island’s business focus of providing industry leading electric service and a company that puts safety first.

  • Act as the chief communications officer, developing, managing and delivering communications strategies and activities that advance PSEG Long Island business goals.

  • Build and protect PSEG Long Island’s reputation as a company that is committed to providing best in class reliability and storm response, outstanding customer service, its highly skilled employees and the communities where they live and work.

  • Engage employees through programs that support PSEG Long Island’s commitment to safety, diversity, two-way dialogue, employee development and access to resources needed to excel.

  • Work closely with executives and senior leaders ensuring communications strategy is aligned and integrated with business strategy.

  • Develop and implement cross function plans to improve JD Power Survey to top quartile specifically the JD Power scores in the Communications segment of the survey.

  • Develop and implement strategic plan to build relationships with and educate influential mainstream media, as well as alternative digital and other news outlets.

  • Act as spokesperson for PSEG Long Island. Conduct interviews for radio, TV, online and print news outlets, develop relationships with reporters, communicate initiatives and news, and promote and protect the company’s reputation.

  • Employ issues management and crisis communications strategy and tactics. Provide accurate and timely information.

  • Identify and secure opportunities to position executives as thought leaders in the industry, providing messaging, counsel, preparation and support.

  • Tell stories across multiple outlets including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, an email employee newsletter and monthly magazine.

  • Plan and develop strategy and content for employee town halls and leadership meetings engaging and educating colleagues about business priorities and initiatives.

  • Draft communications from the president and COO keeping key business and legislative leaders abreast of important initiatives, accomplishments and challenges for the company and industry.

Required Education, Competencies and Skills:

• BS/BA degree with Ten years of experience in corporate communications, journalism, writing, editing, media relations or related fields;

• Experience producing press releases, talking points, op-eds, letters to the editor, position papers and other materials on tight deadlines

• Demonstrated ‘hands-on’ experience working on communication plans

• Experience in measuring the effectiveness of a communication plan

• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, and handling and meeting tight deadlines

• Experience planning and implementing major events

• Ability to work well under pressure while adhering to deadlines

• Demonstrated ability to lead and work with a cross-functional team in a matrix organization

• Superior client relationship focus; self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible

• Awareness of and experience evaluating digital media and applying social media tools to communication plans

Desired Education, Competencies and Skills:

• Fifteen years of experience in corporate communications, journalism, writing, editing or media relations

• Knowledge of the energy, utility or major industrial business

• Experience serving as a member of an executive business leadership team and as a manager of communications professionals

Advanced degree in Communications or related field
