The Americas Systems Engineering Overlay team (aka FAST) has an immediate opportunity for a presales Senior Solutions Specialist with experience designing, architecting, deploying, and securing virtualized Enterprise solutions, both on-prem, in the Cloud, and hybrid configurations. As a Senior Solutions Specialist, you are a key member of a team focusing on building solutions maximizing the adoption of the Commvault Data Platform to transform our customers’ business initiatives to achieve superior value, scalability, and results. Your role is to serve as a subject matter expert, architect and trusted advisor on presales engagements.
The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about technology, has breadth of industry knowledge alongside specific product depth, and who has the drive and courage to define and articulate a great solution. This candidate has had real-world hands-on experience architecting and implementing technology and security architectures for virtualized solutions, cloud migrations, applications and services for large enterprise customers. You have the proven capability to analyze existing products and infrastructure, understand how to leverage existing investments and introduce best of breed, emerging virtualized and software-defined infrastructure techniques. You keep yourself up to speed on capabilities and offerings from on-prem virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Red Hat RHEV, etc.), public cloud vendors (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, etc.), storage technologies, security best practices, current market trends and news, and competitive vendors offerings and capabilities. You will be responsible to help evaluate, learn, architect and provide enablement on new Commvault product capabilities, and identify methods to mitigate challenges and provide an integrated end-to-end scalable, enterprise-class service. This position is responsible for providing technical guidance regarding performance, scalability, security, design, and implementation of our offerings as implemented in our customer’s environments. Additionally, this resource will need to interface closely with other teams at Commvault, collaborating with Product Management, Engineering, and Technical/Sales Enablement to improve product features, tools, and documentation to support the organization while enhancing our market position and sales motions. This includes defining and writing complex technical scenarios (use cases) for use in Proof of Concept engagements.
The successful candidate has the drive and intellectual horsepower to resolve the most difficult technical issues, often through collaboration with other technical specializations; will be a technical resource for the team regarding security, performance, deployment, troubleshooting, and effective utilization of our platform in customer environments; will develop and publish white papers and answer technical questions on the company Intranet; will work in close collaboration with Development, Product Management and various Operations teams; and will interface with and provide updates to management. The following provides an overview of how time might be spent in this role:
Position Responsibilities include:
Architecture and Design and Development (50%)
•Demonstrate knowledge of architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability, public Cloud vendor-specific capabilities) •Demonstrate knowledge of DevOps and Disaster Recovery processes •Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for Cloud end-to-end architecture, including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud and future public Cloud providers, networking, provisioning, and management •Develop a library of deployable and documented design patterns, based on the Commvault Data Platform, as a basis for deploying business and I.T. services to virtualized environments •Demonstrate leadership ability to back your recommendations with research and “knowing the why,” the ability to articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and the confidence to make a final recommendation •Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc. •Develop solutions architectures and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid Cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other Cloud services •Contribute to DevOps/DevTest/DRaaS architecture development activities •Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery •Document end-state results on previously deployed solutions, including lessons-learned and suggestions for improving internal processes on future engagements
Consultation (20%) •Drive consultative conversations with our Business Transformational Services (BTS) teams, to include customer business and technical scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical considerations, and suggestions for transformational and final states •Ensure architected solutions perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements •Provide technical expertise in the diagnosis and resolution of any issues resulting from your designs, including the determination and provision of workaround solutions or escalation to CSAT or Development teams•Collaborate closely with Professional Services teams to ensure delivered solutions are fully understood by PS prior to deployment and realized in the time frame committed; work in conjunction with Project Managers to identify, size, manage and mitigate scope and potential risks to success•Provide technical governance and expertise related to virtualized architectures, deployment, and operations
Thought Leadership (20%) •Provide thought leadership, conversational staffing, and public presentations in industry meetings, expos and events, and to fellow team members •Demonstrate forward and innovative thinking, providing constructive feedback and suggestions about how to improve the product, the organization, and the team’s processes•Advocate and define an architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including our integration with internal and external platforms, tools, and systems
Mentoring (10%) •Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned projects •Encourage a cohesive team and ensure their continued success •Participate in the definition and development of reference architectures and repeatable design patterns•Cohost and present technical enablement webinars, public and private•Conduct product work reviews with team members
Position Requirements include:• Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field•10+ years of experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operations•English proficient, other languages (Spanish and French in particular) are a plus.
Technical Skills required•SME-level hands-on experience with VMware, Hyper-V, and either Azure or AWS-based Cloud Architecture, DR, and on-premise-to-Cloud migration skills. Multi-vendor hypervisor/cloud expertise is a strong plus.•Strong understanding of Cloud and infrastructure components (server, storage, network, data, and applications) •Relevant and current industry certifications such Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS), VMware VCx•4+ years' experience as an IT Infrastructure Architect, with focus on Virtualization, Cloud, server, storage and networking. •Understands and can articulate the technical merits and business value of defined solutions
Consulting skills required •Passionate, persuasive, articulate professional capable of quickly establishing the interest of, engaging with and building business credibility with a customer’s Senior Executives and Sr. Technical Management •Able to design, deploy and operate virtualized architectures using established frameworks•Strong written, verbal and whiteboard skills•Familiarity with the PMI methodology for managed projects and structured deliverables in enterprise applications, solutions and data center infrastructures•Strong knowledge of platform and P2V migrations, infrastructure and configuration management automation tools and methods•Comfortable working with and interfacing to global delivery teams•Good business judgment, a comfortable and open communication style, and a willingness and ability to work well with customers and internal teams.•Strong service attitude and a commitment to quality
Travel: This is a work from home position, with travel occasionally required (30-40% peaks).
